What to expect from therapy?

I usually take the first 5 sessions as a period for getting to know each other, to set rules and define goals you wish to achieve. The duration of therapy is dependent on the problems you feel you are experiencing, openness, level of awareness and contact between us. I offer you my expertise and knowledge, experience and a non judging and supporting environment for any kind of issues you are experiencing. I approach every client with empathy, open mind, interest and authenticity. Don’t hesitate to contact me and schedule your appointment.

FAQ

When is the best time to see a psychotherapist?

  • When something causes significant distress in your life
  • Nothing you have done seems to have helped.
  • Your friend or family is tired of listening to you.
  • You start overusing or abusing something (or someone) to try and help alleviate your symptoms.
What is the minimum age for psychotherapy?

I have been working with children form 3 years old to teenagers and it was always in collaboration with the closest family members (usually young children have a “family” symptom that is to be resolved in family dynamics and involvement in therapy treatment is obligatory for close family members).

Is what I say in therapy kept confidential?

Confidentiality is one of the most important components in therapy, as successful therapy requires a high degree of trust. With few exceptions, the highly sensitive material that is discussed between you and your therapist will not be shared with anyone else without your permission. For example, your therapist may share information with someone on your healthcare team (your physician, naturopath, attorney), but by law will only be allowed to release this information after obtaining your written consent. In addition, therapists are legally mandated to make certain disclosures in cases where there is suspicion of harm to oneself, harm to others, or child abuse. All such disclosures will be discussed with you in advance.

What if I need medication?

I am a psychologist and cannot prescribe medication. If a medication evaluation is appropriate, I will provide you with referrals. I work collaboratively with psychiatrists and other medical doctors to coordinate treatment.

What if I need to cancel the session?

All information on cancelation of sessions is to be discussed on the first appointment. We both share a responsibility to let each other know if we won’t be able to make it on the scheduled session.
